See big-city theater in our quaint small town during your stay at the Inn at Bowman’s Hill. The Bucks County Playhouse in New Hope is one of the premier summer theaters in the nation, with a rich legacy that spans nearly a century. It just launched its 2024 theatrical season that includes five mainstage performances that will have you laughing, crying, singing and dancing in your seats
Originally constructed in 1790 as a grist mill along the banks of the Delaware River, the building underwent a transformation in 1939 when a group of artistic visionaries converted it into a theater. Since then, the Bucks County Playhouse has played host to numerous Broadway-bound productions, legendary performers and groundbreaking works, earning its place as a cherished cultural landmark.
Throughout its storied history, the Bucks County Playhouse has showcased a diverse range of theatrical productions, from classic dramas and comedies to cutting-edge new works and musicals. Its stage has been graced by luminaries such as Grace Kelly, Robert Redford and Angela Lansbury, cementing its reputation as a premier destination for both established and emerging talent.
The Bucks County Playhouse's 2024 summer season is now underway. Producing director Alexander Fraser and his team are hard at work on this season’s productions, and you can’t visit New Hope without catching at least one amazing performance.
The season kicks off with, “Noises Off,” which will run from May 17 until June 16. Starring television's Marilu Henner and Richard Kline, "Noises Off" is a hilariously chaotic farce that offers a behind-the-scenes look at the mishaps and mayhem of a dysfunctional theater troupe. Next in the lineup is the world-premiere of “Last of the Red Hot Mamas,” running from June 28 until July 27. This captivating biographical musical journey celebrates the life and career of iconic vaudeville star Sophie Tucker. From August 9 to September 8, follow the love story of Danny and Sandy at Rydell High School when “Grease” takes the stage. You'll be singing and doing the hand jive as you enjoy this timeless and electrifying musical that captures the essence of 1950s teenage culture.
Following “Grease” will be “The Rocky Horror Show,” from October 11 until November 3. This campy musical inspired the 1975 cult-classic film with its outrageous plot, infectious music and audience participation. The 2024 season will end with “Anastasia: The Musical,” on stage from November 22 until January 5. "Anastasia: The Musical" is filled with romance, intrigue and adventure as a young woman sets out to discover her true identity against the backdrop of post-revolutionary Russia.
