Ghost Tours of New Hope Reveals Town's Haunted History
Do you believe in ghosts? Do you find the idea of restless spirits wandering the earthly realm fascinating? Whether you are drawn to the mysterious and the unexplained or are simply interested in an entertaining lantern-led walk through historic New Hope, the Ghost Tours of New Hope offers a spine-tingling journey into the world of the paranormal. The tours meet at Main and Ferry streets next to Parry Mansion in downtown New Hope, just 3 miles from the Inn at Bowman's Hill.
The Ghost Tours of New Hope was the creation of best-selling author and ghost investigator Adi-Kent Thomas Jeffrey. Following her books "The Bermuda Triangle" and "Ghosts in the Valley," she decided to take her passion for the paranormal to the next level by founding the Ghost Tours of New Hope in 1981. The ghost stories shared along the tour are all based on Jeffrey's personal research and supernatural investigations. Now 42 years later, the popular tours continues under the helm of Adele Gamble, who started as a ghost guide in the early '80s and has been giving tours ever since.
Your knowledgeable guides will share stories steeped in history and a touch of mystery as they lead you down New Hope's moonlit streets. One of the first stops on the tour is the Logan Inn, which dates back to 1727. Known for its centuries-old history, the Logan Inn has a reputation for hosting more than just travelers. As you stand outside this historic establishment, you may encounter the ghost of a Revolutionary War soldier or a young girl who drowned in nearby water. Mysterious footsteps, unexplained cold spots, and the whispers of lingering spirits are few of the tales that have been woven into the inn's storied fabric.
The Logan Inn is just the beginning of your supernatural journey. Another highlight of the tour is the Bucks County Playhouse. However, it's not just the living who have graced its stage. Legend has it that the ghost of a former actor named Oscar haunts the premises, occasionally making his presence known to both actors and audience members. His story adds an extra layer of intrigue to this iconic venue.
As your tour continues, so do the stories of other restless spirits who are said to haunt the town. From the mysterious Lady in White who frequents the banks of the Delaware River to the spectral horse-drawn carriages that are occasionally seen and heard, these tales will keep you on the edge of your seat. You can soak in the atmosphere while keeping an eye out for spirits like the Phantom Hitchhiker, New Hope folk artist Joseph Pickett who haunts Mechanic Street, and even Aaron Burr.
Tours are available from June through November on Saturday nights, but in the spooky month of October they add Friday night tours, as well as one on Halloween night. The one-hour tour covers about 1 mile of the town. Don't be alarmed: There are no costumed actors who will jump out from the shadows to scare you. If you experience anything out of the ordinary, it's the real thing!
The Ghost Tours of New Hope promises an unforgettable evening of mystery and intrigue for skeptics and true believers. It's a chance to immerse yourself in the rich history and eerie legends of this charming town, where the past and the paranormal coexist. At the conclusion of your tour, return to the safety and comfort of your restful accommodations at the Inn at Bowman's Hill, where we promise there are no ghosts — or are there?
